About this deal

In many ways, Lord Loss bears a resemblance to a spider: His eight arms and the fact that he sometimes moves by crawling across his webbing all suggest an arachnid quality. In a sudden departure from the modern world with demons lurking in hidden corners we’ve been introduced to the reader is transported to an ancient world of swords and spears, clans and honour.

Due to the Crux being set up like a chess board, with the white zones being the Demonata's universe and the black zones being the Old Creature's universe, Lord Loss's obsession with chess prepared him for his destiny of becoming the last Demon Master. He also has the ability to feed on a persons pain, which he needs the way a human needs food and water. I went into this book without really knowing what it was about and enjoyed the suspense so I will tell no more about it. In Lord Loss, the title character is first seen killing the family of our protagonist, Grubbs, accompanied by Vein and Artery. If his behavior is only a trick to make the reader be surprised that they will learn to like Grubs, it's kind of a cheap one.Other than his obvious demonic abilities, Lord Loss gained an obsession with chess, one of his only similarities to mankind, and has become very good at it. Lord Loss is by far the most complex demon in the series, apart from Beranabus who is not a full demon. Darren Shan is really good at writing mentor relationships where the main character gets a second father. Grubitsch "Grubbs" Grady, the younger child of chess-obsessed parents, grows increasingly uneasy with the recent strange, nervous behavior of his parents and sister. Lord Loss kills people in the cruelest ways he can think of; in Bec he has the zombies of Orna's own children eat her alive all for his entertainment.

He then transports into the Original Board (taken from Drust in Bec) upon Bec's request, and secretely makes a deal with her. I believe that if i start saying a little bit more about this book i will spoil all the surprises, because from the beginning it starts with some weird things happening that let you guessing what is going on, and you start discovering what it is all about, what is the truth that lies behind, and why some things happened, and it all starts from the very beginning. In Lord Loss, the title character, is first seen killing the family of our protagonist, Grubbs, accompanied by Vein and Artery.

Dervish confirms to Grubbs that the Gradys are indeed cursed, only that it has been going on for centuries.

Unlike most Demon Masters, he has the power to traverse between the two universes with relative ease due to the fact that a piece of the Kah-Gash resided in him for an extended period of time.Along with sensing powerful magic in the Original Board and unlocking its secrets, Lord Loss also liked chess simply as a means of entertainment, showing a playful side. His sadistic side is arguably caused by his biology and unique appetite rather than his actual personality.

He also sours Bec's "victory" with an admission to the futility of their mission, claiming that closing the tunnel had been for his benefit and that he had been crossing for centuries before that. The chess game goes like this; 3 chess boards against the demon himself while your teammate battles two minor demons in a death match. Anyway shortly afterwards his parents and sister send him to his grandmother’s while they go on their trip. When he opts out of a family weekend trip, he never guesses that he is about to take a terrifying journey into darkness. That teens would be unable to relate to a story entirely about a badass demon-fighting protagonist with a burning urge to stay alive and that it would be a better idea to tone it down for a few chapters so that teens could read instead about a protagonist doing exciting things like watch movies with a friend in his living room?
