About this deal

In 1993 Brian Eno asked Kate to contribute to an auction for War Child, and she came up with the idea of two identical box frames, each containing a flashing red LED with text on brass plaques). Most cannot comprehend the cost involved here while they struggle yo pay mortgage/rents/bills etc in these testing times. In 1985, when MTV was reaching the peak of its viewership and veteran British acts were suddenly experiencing more pressure to adapt and take new directions, she finally broke the notoriously imperious American market.

Inside The Boxes of Lost at Sea are two vinyl records, described as “UV print on a side without grooves, on white vinyl. It's just a bit cringe that now people think everyone who likes her likes her because of stranger things(now I know what the hipsters feel like liking people before they were popular) but if even 1/10 of these people become actual fans I'm happy. I'm not saying this negatively, I'm so incredibly happy she's getting the recognition she deserves but I fear most of it is a fad and way more about stranger things than kate bush. Fish People are also reissuing the regular vinyl and CD versions of Hounds of Love and believe it or not (Stranger Things fans, ahoy! Kate Bush’s 1985 album Hounds Of Love will be reissued on CD and vinyl later this year, it has been announced.Release Date: 21st December Kate Bush has overseen these meticulously produced represses of her back catalogue. The Studio Album has been fully remastered by Kate and James Guthrie and will be released for the first time in over 10 years in premium 180g Heavyweight vinyl. It is a perfectly good remix for the radio/single, but loses some of the impact of the original album version.

So overall the second half of this album (the concept side) is beautiful, but the first 5 tracks don't sit as well together as they do on much earlier CDs, including the late 90s remaster (which had the album mix plus several bonuses).

Hounds of Love is of course Bush's most famous single, and her second most famous single, 'Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)' as mentioned above, also makes it onto this album, proving why it is deserving of the classic status it has long held. Her style and material has always been unique, eccentric even, but Hounds of Love is probably the strongest mix of controlled musical experimentation and lyrical expression. Please note, I'm merely using Madonna as an example because she's the bestselling female artist of all time (for now); and Lady Gaga because she is the one to challenge that in recent years, and has accomplished so much!

Running Up That Hill' is obviously the highlight, and I'm not basing this solely on the fact it's her most well-known single! The Baskerville Edition of Hounds of Love is intended to be the first in a series of illustrated editions of Kate’s albums.Interestingly, ‘The Big Sky’ is no longer indicated as the ‘single mix’ even though it must be, if they are using the 2018 version.

The color is absolutely gorgeous, the vinyl is almost perfectly flat, and the mastering is as good as it should be : clean and quiet. I already have most "classic Kate" originals but I wanted to add to my collection one or two of her very best albums in the newly remastered versions and this one definitely feels definitive. The 80s production sharp edges on drums etc have presumably been smoothed down a bit in remastering, more in keeping with the production of her later albums.

I now listen to the likes of Fleetwood Mac, David Bowie (Lady Gaga inspired this choice mostly), and so on, due to this album! This was an artist whose musical and studio prowess, eccentric conceptions, artful persona and modern dance skills became increasingly honed and interdependent with each album, and by the 1980s, she had achieved considerable ascendency and chart success in the UK. Though not the most prolific of album artists, Bush's works make up in impact what they lack in frequency. Fortunately, Bush was afforded creative control over her immensely more abstract than necessary promo clips, which invariably accorded with, added new meaning to and translated her lyrics, inevitably showcasing her symbolised sensuality and sense of wonder in an overtly stylish and romantic manner. Should it have been on a 2 vinyl set, perhaps a limited a run of 45 rpm would have been nice, but actually the sound is excellent and I don't really think you want four sides, it's a lot of flipping disks, especially side 2, as flipping half way would be intrusive to the ninth wave IMO.
